Home should have been only a short walk away, but after becoming disoriented on a bitterly cold night, a blind woman realized she had no idea where she was. Without her service dog to guide her and with the temperature hovering around ten degrees, she wandered her apartment complex for nearly an hour as exhaustion and hypothermia began to set in.
Just as she accepted that she couldn’t keep going, a man’s voice called down from a nearby apartment. He asked if her German Shepherd was friendly, then told her to simply follow his voice and led her safely back to her door. The next day she mentioned the encounter to her father, expecting nothing more than a conversation about a helpful neighbor.
Instead, he told her the man who had lived in that apartment had died in a motorcycle accident long before that winter night.
