Cleaning an office building after hours meant spending most nights alone. She preferred it that way, even after she began hearing footsteps on empty floors, doors closing in dark offices, and an elevator arriving when no one was there.
There was always an explanation she could live with. Old equipment. Strange acoustics. Someone working later than expected. Then a thunderstorm knocked out the power.
With only emergency lights and the flashlight on her phone, she heard footsteps moving above her and went looking for whoever might still be inside. The offices were empty, security showed no one else in the building, and she was ready to leave.
