Living in an apartment building that had once been a hospital gave him plenty of reminders of its past. The units were modern, but the long fluorescent hallways, heavy doors, and old institutional layout were still there.
As a medical student, he often stayed up well past midnight, and one of his favorite ways to unwind was to take his guitar to the top of the stairwell and play beneath the windows overlooking the city. The locked door beside him led to the hospital’s abandoned helipad and had always been strictly off-limits.
Then, during one late-night guitar session, something touched his shoulder.
