She had already been hearing unexplained scratching in the bedroom, and the four-year-old who normally used the room refused to even go inside. But nothing prepared her for what she saw when she woke in the middle of the night: several perfectly human-shaped shadows standing outside the windows, watching her from places where no person could possibly have been standing.
Then she noticed another shadow. This one was inside the bedroom.
