The rental house was never supposed to be permanent. It was simply a place to live for six months while their dream home was being remodeled. At first, everything seemed perfect. The children settled into new routines, the house was comfortable, and every week brought them one step closer to moving into the home they had always wanted.
Then the footsteps started.
At first they were easy to dismiss. An older house always makes strange noises. But when every member of the family began hearing someone walking the upstairs hallway late at night, those explanations became harder to believe. Then their youngest daughter casually mentioned the little girl she kept seeing running through the house. Months later, her mother would finally see the same child standing at the end of the hallway.
