While searching for a cheap desk, he wandered upstairs alone in a crowded secondhand store. Footsteps followed him through the hallway, but no one ever appeared. Then, in the glass doors of an old cabinet, he saw an older man standing directly behind him.
He turned around.
The doorway was empty.
He returned later with a friend, determined to prove that the furniture or the glass had created the reflection. Nothing they tried could reproduce it. On their way out, his friend asked the woman behind the counter whether the building was haunted. He expected her to laugh.
Instead, before either of them mentioned the cabinet, the room or where the man had appeared, she asked one question:
“Was he standing in the doorway of the back room?”
