In November of 1974, a small bungalow at 966 Lindley Street in Bridgeport, Connecticut, became the center of one of the strangest alleged poltergeist cases in New England.
The Goodin family had reported unexplained pounding for years, but suddenly furniture began moving, objects fell from walls, and household items seemed to shift on their own. Then the police arrived. Several officers later put their observations in writing, including claims that they watched furniture move and saw a refrigerator lift several inches from the kitchen floor.
Within days, however, the case took an unexpected turn when the family’s ten-year-old daughter admitted she had faked some of the activity.
That should have solved the mystery.
Instead, it created the question that has followed the Lindley Street case ever since: if some of it was a hoax, what exactly did all those witnesses see?
