She had lived in the 150-year-old Pennsylvania house long enough to know that not everything there felt the same. Some of the activity seemed almost harmless—voices and laughter drifting through the yard where an old barn once stood, as though a party from decades ago was still happening.
But something else in the house felt very different.
There were rooms her brothers didn’t want to sleep in, areas she avoided after dark, and a presence that seemed especially strong near the basement, the chimney and the back of the house. For a long time, she wondered whether she was simply more sensitive than everyone else.
