When they first moved into the house, she heard footsteps in the attic.
Her husband heard them too. Even contractors working overhead reported loud bangs they couldn’t explain. Eventually life moved on, the renovations ended, and the strange noises faded into the background.
Or so she thought.
Years later, during a casual conversation with her daughter, she learned something that stopped her cold. The footsteps had never really gone away. Her daughter had been hearing them too.
Looking back, old memories suddenly felt different. The bedroom her daughter never wanted to sleep in. The constant requests to stay somewhere else. The complaints she assumed were just part of growing up.
